During routine surveillance in April 2006 Ciborinia camelliae was detected in a limited number of plants at three, geographically widely distributed, locations in the Netherlands. Phytosanitary measures have been applied for all plants intended to be moved or traded.

Danger
As part of routine monitoring surveillance the fungus Ciborinia camelliae was positively identified from a sample of a single Camellia plant on 28 April 2006 in a public garden. In a follow-up survey during the flowering period of Camellia, 11 samples out of 69 samples taken from plants for planting with symptoms proved positive on the basis of laboratory diagnosis. Phytosanitary measures have been applied for all plants intended to be moved or traded. C. camelliae is a harmful organism for the European Community (Annex II A section I). The pest is on the A2 EPPO list (version 2005-09).
