In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural export competitiveness, the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), led by Comptroller General Dr. Vincent Isegbe, held a strategic meeting with fresh vegetable exporters at the South West Zonal Command in Ikeja, Lagos.
The high-level engagement, co-chaired by Dr. Isegbe and the South West Zonal Commander, Dr. Joy Ivbade Ichue, addressed critical challenges facing the vegetable export sector. Discussions focused on enhancing compliance with international phytosanitary standards and improving logistics across the export value chain.
A comprehensive 20-point communiqué was adopted at the end of the meeting, laying out a clear roadmap for improving the quality and consistency of Nigerian vegetable exports. This framework is expected to streamline export processes, reduce the incidence of rejection at foreign borders, and increase profitability for Nigerian exporters.
The initiative aligns with NAQS’s mandate to facilitate safe trade while preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s agricultural produce. It also supports the Federal Government’s broader goal of diversifying the nation’s export base through value-added agricultural products.
Stakeholders praised NAQS’s consultative and proactive approach, describing the meeting as a milestone in repositioning Nigeria’s vegetable exports for global competitiveness.
“This collaboration is a step in the right direction,” said one exporter. “With these measures in place, we can confidently meet international standards and scale up our operations.”
NAQS reaffirmed its commitment to continuous engagement with stakeholders to ensure Nigeria’s agricultural exports are not only safe and compliant but also globally preferred.
