Short Description

The Spread of trans-boundary pests and diseases and alien invasive species are mainly because of the increasing international trade and traffic in the contemporary globalized world which pose the country to phytosanitary risks and hence there is immense need of stringent quarantine regulations. The migratory pests like locust and birds etc. are equally injurious which requires some special management options like surveillance, ground control operations and at extreme cases the aerial control.

In case of establishment of a an exotic pest in the country there may be a possibility that the growers may rely on chemical pesticide. The misuse of agricultural pesticides carry a lot of potential problems like pesticides resistance, residues, killing of non-target organisms, bioaccumulation in food chain/ food safety, occupational hazards, direct poisoning.

Keeping in view of the above issues there is strong justification to apply stringent phytosanitary measures.
