Summary

One colony of Solenopsis invicta (Si) was found for the first time in Rep. of Korea in a container yard in Busan Metropolitan city. Si was identified morphologically and DNA analysis is under process for further analysis.

The Government of Republic of Korea conducts eradication measures including disinfestation. In addition, increased inspection and survey is conducted in the container yards and imported containers, wood packaging material and consignments etc.

Recently NPPO of Rep. of Korea has enhanced survey for Si and S. geminata (Sg). The exporting countries especially with Si and Sg in their countries are requested strengthen the inspection not only plants and products but also containers, wood packaging materials etc. to export to Rep. of Korea.

Danger
The pest could be introduced by imported plant, plant products, containers, wood packaging materials, ship, passengers etc. The pest is harmful not only for plants but also for human and animals.
