Short Description

In St.Kitts and Nevis the functions of the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) are executed by the Quarantine Unit of the Department of Agriculture. The Unit consists of a Chief Quarantine Officer, one Quarantine Officer, two Quarantine Assistant Officers and an Agricultural Trainee. The main responsibilities of the NPPO are the preventing the introduction of plant pests, protection of plant resources from exotic plant pests, facilitation of trade in plant and plant products and the regulation of other materials connected to Plant protection. To ensure these responsibilities are carried out the NPPO follows IPPC guidelines and ensures food security by conducting a Pest Risk Analysis ( PRA) , inspections, surveillance and issuance of Import Permits and Phytosanitary Certificates.
