Short Description

In Singapore, the responsibilities of plant protection falls under the purview of the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) i.e. NPPO under the Ministry of National Development. In AVA, this involves mainly the Quarantine and Inspection Group and the Laboratories Group - Plant Health Laboratory Department.

The Quarantine and Inspection Group (QIG) in AVA is responsible for the regulation of controlled products, inspection, risk assessment, maintenance of health standards, accreditation of exporters and facilities and quarantine pest surveillance. These tasks are undertaken by the Import and Export Regulation Department (IERD) - Plant and the Inspection Department (ID) Plant.

The Plant Health Laboratory Department (PHLD) under the Laboratories Group (LG) in AVA provides the subject matter resource in plant health, diagnostic services, pest management strategies risk assessment and plant health surveillance programme to support the phytosanitary functions of IERD – Plant and ID – Plant.

The Technology & Industry Development Group and the Agri-Establishment Regulation Group also contribute to plant health work by their extensions and farm management.
