The Swiss Federal Plant Protection Service (SPPS) is responsible for the prevention of the introduction and spread of particularly harmful pests and diseases (Quarantine organisms) that affect plants and plant products. It is run jointly by the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The SPPS collaborates with Swiss and foreign authorities, international organizations as well as associations and farmers in Switzerland. The legal basis for phytosanitary measures in Switzerland is the Plant Protection Ordinance.
