Mr. Greifer joined USDA/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in 1989. He currently serves as Assistant Deputy Administrator in the Plant Protection & Quarantine (PPQ)branch. He is responsible for directing and coordinating the Agency^^s international plant health standards work. Mr. Greifer has played an active role in the international standard setting area—International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) since 1996. He serves as a U.S. delegate to the IPPC’ Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM). In that role he represents the United States at the annual Commission meetings and on various expert working groups and subsidiary bodies, coordinates the development of U.S. phytosanitary positions, and works with other delegations to advance the objectives of the IPPC. Mr. Greifer currently serves as the North American representative on the IPPC Bureau (governing body of the CPM). Mr. Greifer has previously served as a U.S. and/or North American representative on: the CPM’ Subsidiary Body on Dispute Settlement (SBDS); CPM’ Informal Working Group on Strategic Planning and Technical Assistance (SPTA); and, World Trade Organization (WTO) SPS Committee. Education: Mr. Greifer earned his Master degree in International Policy from the University of Michigan (1987) and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan (1982). Mr. Greifer spent four years in Guatemala as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer (1982-86). He worked in the rural sector, promoting and coordinating rural youth programs, under the direction of the Guatemala Ministry of Agriculture. alyst in Policy and Program Development.
