Short Description

The Plant Protection and Quarantine Division (PPQD)of Zambia Agriculture Research Institute was established in 1951 at Mount Makulu Research Station in Chilanga, 18Km South of Lusaka. The unit has four sections: Pathology, Entomology, Food Storage and Conservation Unit and Plant Quarartine and Phytosanitary Service (PQPS). PQPS started serving as the National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) of Zambia in 1995. PQPS has the mandate of preventing the introduction and spread of plant pests, diseases and alien species through the enforcement of Plant Pests and Diseases Act CAP 233 and Noxious Weeds Act CAP 231 of the Laws of Zambia.
