Rome 28 September 2022 - The Technical Consultation among Regional Plant Protection Organizations (TC-RPPO) met on the side of the first ever International Plant Health Conference (IPHC) on 21 and 22 September 2022 for its 34th meeting.

TC-RPPOs are regularly convened on an annual basis by the Secretary of the Commission. The purpose of the TC-RPPOs is to encourage inter-regional cooperation in promoting harmonized phytosanitary measures, and the development and use of relevant international standards for phytosanitary measures. In addition to being a forum for RPPOs to consult as a group, the TC can support regional programmes under the IPPC and contribute to the work programme of the Commission of Phytosanitary Measures (CPM).

International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretary Osama El-Lissy welcomed the RPPOs representatives and observers and presented an update on IPPC core values.

The President of the Plant Health Committee (COSAVE for its acronym in Spanish), Diego Quiroga chaired the meeting featuring TC-RPPOs on partnership and collaboration for harmonizing IPPC Standards and their implementation. ”We continue carrying out the role of RPPO in coordination for the implementation of the IPPC and its International standards for phytosanitary measures (ISPMs). This is our first face-to-face meeting after the pandemic. It allowed us to identify relevant issues such as pest alert systems, ePhyto, and the importance of plant health awareness, among others. We highlight the great commitment of the RPPOs with the IPPC Secretariat to keep working together to support the execution of the 2020-2030 strategic framework.”, said Quiroga

The TC-RPPO will tentatively meet virtually in November 2022 to continue their discussions ahead of CPM 17.
