CBD International Day for Biological Diversity 2013: re-energizing cooperation with the IPPC

Today, May 22, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity. As in the past,this day will kick off a one-year campaign to raise awareness and encourage international engagement on challenging issues in biological diversity. This year’s focus, titled the “International Year of Water and Biodiversity” was chosen by the 2010 UN General Assembly. Throughout the year, events and educational programmes will be hosted by various stakeholders located around the globe. The Republic of Korea contributes towards phytosanitary capacity development in South-East Asian countries

The signing ceremony for the 3-year FAO project “Support to Capacity Development in Implementation of Plant Pest Surveillance and Information management in South-East Asian Countries” took place on 25 April 2013. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea contributed nearly US$ 1.8 million towards this project to strengthen the capacity of NPPOs (National Plant Protection Organizations) of developing countries in the South-East Asian region. International Plant Protection Convention call for nominations of experts Nominations for authors of IPPC diagnostic protocols for Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (2004-016) Nominations are being solicited by the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) for authors of one IPPC diagnostic protocols (DP) for Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (2004-016), as outlined below. Reflecting on the achievements of CPM-8 (April 2013)

It has been over 2 weeks since the Eighth Session of the CPM and it is time to reflect on the achievements and plan for the next 12 month work cycle. Mr. Steve Ashby, the Chairperson of the CPM, noted the achievements of CPM in his summary.
