Rome, 1 September 2022 – The CPM Bureau held its latest virtual meeting to receive updates on preparations for the forthcoming Sea Containers Workshop and Strategic Planning Group meeting, and to continue discussion on the oversight of the dispute settlement process and the development of a policy on observers participating in Friends of the Chair meetings during CPM sessions. To encourage wider participation in the Strategic Planning Group, the CPM Bureau extended the deadline for registration and submission of papers to 16 September 2022. The CPM Bureau also confirmed the membership of two new focus groups established by CPM-16 (2022): one focusing on sea containers and the other on the safe provision of food and other humanitarian aid. Recognizing that not all FAO regions are represented on the latter focus group, regional plant protection organizations and contracting parties are encouraged to submit additional nominations to the secretariat by 15 September 2022.

Looking ahead to 2023, the CPM Bureau agreed that CPM-17 should be held in person, noting that the benefits of meeting in person far outweigh the extra costs compared with meeting virtually.

The report of the meeting will be posted on www.ippc.int/en/core-activities/governance/bureau
