IPPC e-learning course: Wood packaging material in international trade

Do you know what’s behind the ISPM 15 mark — and how it protects global plant health? The IPPC Secretariat is pleased to invite colleagues in the plant health community and more widely to enroll and complete the e-learning course Wood packaging material in international trade, available on the IPPC Plant Health Campus.

This self-paced e-learning course supports the implementation of ISPM 15 (Regulation of Wood Packaging in International Trade) by providing clear, practical guidance for national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), treatment providers, and wood packaging manufacturers.

The course is part of a growing library of certified e-learning resources developed by the IPPC Secretariat and the FAO elearning Academy. Visit the IPPC Plant Health Campus and take the course here.

The IPPC Plant Health Campus is a free, multilingual platform offering e-learning courses, guides, and tools accessible to all.

Who should enroll? This course is designed for anyone with an interest in the subject, including Heads and staff members of national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), NPPO staff, manufacturers of wood packaging material (WPM), WPM treatment providers, exporters and importers.

You will learn about:

  • How global trade expansion has increased the risk of plant pest introduction, particularly through wood packaging materials.
  • The purpose of the ISPM 15 mark and its role in international trade.
  • Essential aspects of developing a national ISPM 15 authorization programme.
  • The risk-based inspection process that NPPOs adopt, emphasizing how various considerations for import inspections shape decision-making.

Upon completion, participants earn a digital badge certifying the skills acquired—supporting professional development and recognition.
