Report of the 2025 IPPC Strategic Planning Group (SPG) meeting in now posted

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is pleased to announce that the report from the 2025 IPPC Strategic Planning Group (SPG) meeting held in Rome from October 27–29, 2025 in now posted here.

The report outlines some critical strategic directions for the IPPC community as it works toward fulfilling the 2020–2030 Strategic Framework, with a strong emphasis on enhancing global food security through technical excellence and biosecurity.

The meeting agenda focused on the status of implementation of the IPPC 8 transformative "Development Agenda Items" (DAIs), and the recent discussions on "Rethinking ISPMs" aimed at making international standards more accessible through plain language and visual tools. Key highlights included progress updates on the ePhyto solution for electronic certification, the establishment of global diagnostic laboratory networks, and managing the impacts of climate change on plant health. Additionally, the group discussed the Africa Phytosanitary Programme (APP) and initiated multi-year planning for the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) for 2026–2028, centered on the theme of "Plant biosecurity and the future of food" for 2026.
