2024-11 - Call for DP authors

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for authors for the following IPPC Diagnostic Protocols (DPs) on the work programme of the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP):

Nominations can be submitted by e-mail no later than 15 February 2025.

Oryctes rhinoceros (2023-003)

Halyomorpha halys (2023-012)

Pyricularia oryzae (syn. Magnaporthe oryzae) on Triticum spp. (2019-010)

New title adjustment approved by the SC - Tephritidae: molecular identification of immature stages of fruit flies of economic importance to genus (2006-028)

DP authors should have expertise concerning the diagnostics of the pest and should be available to allocate appropriate time for the development of the diagnostic protocol that may include several virtual meetings with the lead author and the TPDP member coordinating the development of the draft. For authors of DPs, there is generally no need for attendance at face to face meetings.

The call is launched on 27 November 2024. The deadline to submit nominations via email is 15 February 2025.

NOTE: Please note, that an earlier call was issued for all the subjects listed above, however we did not receive enough qualified nominees. If you were already nominated as an author during an earlier call, you will be automatically considered when reviewing the additional nominations and selecting the drafting group.

The nominations are accepted from the IPPC contracting parties through the NPPOs (IPPC Official Contact Points) or RPPOs.

It is encouraged that self-nominations are coordinated with the IPPC contracting parties through the IPPC Official Contact Points or RPPOs

Some NPPOs require nominations for DP authors be submitted through the NPPO. Please consult your contracting party contact point before submitting. Contact points reserve the right to withdraw nominations not submitted by the contact point.

According to the IPPC standard setting procedure, the TPDP will make the selection of the authors and report to the IPPC Standards Committee (SC). Selected nominees will be contacted.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS – PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY!

Nominations can be submitted by e-mail no later than 15 February 2025.

Nominations will be accepted from contracting parties, national or regional plant protection organizations (NPPOs or RPPOs) through their respective NPPO or RPPO ([official IPPC Contact Points][8]).

A nomination should only be made if the nominee has agreed to his/her nomination. Please make sure to indicate which DP(s) you are submitting the nomination for.

Each nomination must be accompanied by the following documentation:

  1. Completed nominee details and summary of expertise form
  2. Completed and signed Statement of Commitment form
  3. The nominee's Curriculum Vitae (CV)

The templates for the summary of expertise form and the Statement of Commitment form are posted below on this webpage.

Nominations by e-mail

Submissions should be sent to the **IPPC Secretariat by e-mail [[email protected]][9], put in copy [[email protected]][10] and [[email protected]][11]. The name of the nominating country or RPPO and the words “Call for DP authors” should be placed in the subject line of the email message.

The email should contain the following three attachments:

1. Completed nominee details and summary of expertise form – (only as a word processing file such as MS Word). All sections should be completed, including contact details, education and professional training. A clear description of the nominee’s expertise is required. See form below.

The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_Summary;

2. Completed and signed Statement of Commitment form – this should be read carefully by each nominee and discussed between the nominee and their employer. The form should then be signed by the nominee and a senior person in authority from the organization that employs the nominee. See form below.

The form should be submitted with the nomination (as a scanned image file such as PDF). The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_commitment;

3. The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae (CV) – electronic copy of the nominee’s CV.

The file should be named as follows: COUNTRY_SURNAME_Firstname_CV.

Online Submission form

The online submission form is not available for this call.

Required expertise

Authors should have technical and scientific expertise with the respective pest, diagnostic expertise is considered a core requirement. Additionally, the following areas of expertise are desirable:

  • taxonomy and molecular diagnostics
  • practical experience related to the pest (detection, identification, isolation etc.)
  • quarantine DP expertise, including experience using DPs for detection and identification of regulated pests
  • drafting of DPs (such as regional DPs)
  • development of novel diagnostic methods

2024-07 - Call for DP authors

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat solicited nominations for authors for the following IPPC Diagnostic Protocols (DPs) included in the work programme of the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP):

Nominations closed on 30 September 2024.

- Oryctes rhinoceros (2023-003)

- Alopecurus myosuroides (2023-010)

- Halyomorpha halys (2023-012)

The call was launched on 26 July 2024.

NOTE: Please note that an earlier call was issued for the first three subjects listed above (Oryctes rhinoceros (2023-003), Alopecurus myosuroides (2023-010), Halyomorpha halys (2023-012)); however, we did not receive enough qualified nominees

Nominations were accepted from the IPPC contracting parties through their respective NPPOs (IPPC Official Contact Points) or (RPPOs).

Some NPPOs required nominations for DP authors to be submitted through the NPPO. Contact points reserved the right to withdraw nominations not submitted through themt.

2024-03 - Call for DP authors

"The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat solicited nominations for authors for the following IPPC Diagnostic Protocols (DPs) included in the work programme of the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP):

Nominations could be submitted both by email and via the online form no later than 17 May 2024 (new deadline).

  • Oryctes rhinoceros (2023-003)
  • High-throughput sequencing identification of pure culture of phytopathogenic regulated bacteriaisolated from plants (2023-009)
  • Alopecurus myosuroides (2023-010)
  • Halyomorpha halys (2023-012)
  • Bactrocera correcta (2023-015)
  • Bactrocera tsuneonis and Bactrocera minax (2023-016)
  • Avocado sunblotch viroid (2023-026)
  • Thaumatotibia leucotreta (2023-029)

DP authors were required to have expertise in pest diagnostics and to be available to allocate sufficient time for the development of the diagnostic protocol, which could include several virtual meetings with the lead author and the TPDP member coordinating the draft's development. Generally, there was no need for DP authors to attend face-to-face meetings.

"The call was launched on 11 March 2024, with the deadline for submitting nominations via email and the online automated submission form set for 17 May 2024.


2023-05 - Call for DP authors

"The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat solicited nominations for authors for the following IPPC Diagnostic Protocols (DPs) included in the work programme of the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP):

  • Microcyclus ulei (2019-003)
  • Spodoptera frugiperda (2021-016)
  • Moniliophthora roreri (2019-005)

The call was launched on 18 May 2023, and the deadline for submitting nominations was 23 June 2023.

It was encouraged that self-nominations be coordinated with the IPPC contracting parties through the IPPC contracting parties through the IPPC Official Contact Points or RPPOs

Some NPPOs required that nominations for DP authors be submitted through the NPPO. Applicants were advised to consult their contracting party's contact point before submitting. Contact points reserved the right to withdraw nominations that were not submitted through them.
