Rome, 8 September 2020. The 2020 IPPC National Reporting Obligations (NROs) Workshop for Caribbean was held virtually from 8 to 9 September with the participation of 50 representatives from 15 Caribbean countries and territories: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The workshop aimed at disseminating basic knowledge and latest developments of NROs; improving the quality and quantity of reports on IPP; sharing experience; and collecting feedback to the IPPC Secretariat.
During the workshop, the IPPC Secretariat gave a detailed presentation on the NROs and statistics of NROs Reports. Participants were involved in a virtual training on IPP data entry. Then latest developments on NROs related issues were presented by the IPPC Secretariat, including NROs new webpage, Pest bulletins, NROs oversight body, NROs Updates, e-learning, automatic reminders mechanism and educational materials and statistics. Participants raised questions regarding the submission of pest reports, including pros and cons of submitting pest reports, list of regulated pests, when to submit pest reports. During the workshop, participants discussed the challenges related to NROs and generously shared their successful experiences to submit pest reports. All the participants agreed that they got a renewed and clear understanding of NROs and their capacities to fulfil obligations were strengthened.
