Rome, 8 July 2021 – The CPM Bureau convened its eighth virtual meeting in 2021 to discuss the preliminary agenda of the Strategic Planning Group (SPG) 2021 meeting and the work of the CPM Focus Groups on Implementation of the Strategic Framework 2020 – 2030 Development Agenda Items; Climate Change and Phytosanitary Issues; and Communications, among other topics. After the establishment of the three focus groups by the fifteenth Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-15), the CPM Bureau indicated early September as a potential date for first meetings of each focus group to allow the endorsed nominees to familiarise themselves with task contained in the Terms of Reference (ToR) for each focus group and prepare for the discussions ahead. Similarly, three CPM Bureau members were nominated as champions to follow the work of each focus group while the IPPC Secretariat indicated three focal points.

The CPM Bureau was also able to identify 19 and 21 October 2021 as the two dates for the eleventh SPG meeting, and asked the IPPC Secretariat to make the necessary arrangements to that end. The CPM Bureau highlighted the importance of having discussion on key IPPC strategic issues, particularly in relation to the implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020 – 2030 and its development agenda items, as well as holding an open discussion on the IPPC community’s involvement in ‘One Health’ dialogues within FAO. After just over two hours of detailed discussions, the CPM Bureau agreed to reconvene on 26 August, at 12:00 (CEST), to finalise the SPG preparations as well as receive updates of status of operation of the newly established CPM Focus Groups.
