Rome, 10 June 2021. The CPM Bureau met virtually for the sixth time in 2021 to advance the nominations for the CPM Focus Groups on the Implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020 – 2030 Development Agenda Items; Climate Change and Phytosanitary Issues; and Communications. Most of the nominations were reviewed and endorsed by the CPM Bureau while others required more assessment and evaluation. The CPM Bureau agreed to hold an extraordinary meeting to finalise the missing nominations and gave green lights to begin preparations for each CPM Focus Group first meeting, expected to take place in July 2021.
The CPM Bureau had the opportunity to appreciate the joint statement by the Cargo Industry Group (CIG) and invited its members to share their points with the IPPC Sea Container Task Force (SCTF), to which the CIG participates as a member. The IPPC Secretariat shared some updates regarding the appointment of the new IPPC Secretary, particularly on the selection process and the CPM Chairperson involvement in the selection panel, which reflects past CPM Bureau’s decisions. In conclusion, the CPM Bureau expressed its willingness to hold the sixteenth session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures in presence in light of the gradual global improvement of the COVID-19 situation.
