The IPPC Holding the Second PCE Facilitators Training in Thailand

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat organized and held the second training for the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) Facilitators from 8 – 19 August 2016 in Chang Mai, Thailand under the Standards Trade and Development Facility (STDF) project 401: Training of Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) Facilitators.

The STDF project 401 seeks to improve national-level coordination and coherence of plant protection programmes through improved needs assessment and action planning. The aim of the project is to train a pool of individuals to facilitate phytosanitary needs assessment and action planning processes using the IPPC Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) tool.

Eight Developing Countries Have Started Using the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation Thanks to IPPC

The IPPC staff has facilitated the use of the Phytosanitary (plant health) Capacity Evaluation (PCE) in eight developing countries (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Burundi, Lebanon, Lesotho, Mozambique and Oman) around the world over the past year. The PCE generates a snapshot of a country's phytosanitary capacity at a particular time, as the basis for planning phytosanitary capacity building. The PCE process also provides a framework for rational strategic planning to prioritize activities/resources to fill gaps and enhance the effectiveness of the overall phytosanitary system. Workshop on Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation in Lebanon

The Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) of the phytosanitary services in Lebanon was carried out in Beirut, Lebanon during the period 08 – 13 May, 2011, within the framework of the project: GCP/LEB/021/ITA. The application of the PCE was requested by the Government of Lebanon and supported by the FAO in-country representation.

The PCE was requested on the basis that it would identify the country priorities for strengthening the phytosanitary services and preparation of a national action plan (strategic framework).
