The Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) of the phytosanitary services in Lebanon was carried out in Beirut, Lebanon during the period 08 – 13 May, 2011, within the framework of the project: GCP/LEB/021/ITA. The application of the PCE was requested by the Government of Lebanon and supported by the FAO in-country representation.
The PCE was requested on the basis that it would identify the country priorities for strengthening the phytosanitary services and preparation of a national action plan (strategic framework).
The technical staff of the NPPO, as well as other relevant institutions such LARI (Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute), universities, legal department and other stakeholders have been participated in the workshop.
Six of the thirteen modules of the PCE were completed during this workshop and the remaining modules of the PCE will be completed by the PCE national coordinator with assistance of the staff in the MoA and relevant institutions in Lebanon.
The PCE was facilitated by Mr. Orlando Sosa, IPPC Secretariat with participation of LEGN Officers to provide legal advice for the legal module of the PCE and the Regional Crop Protection Officer for the Near East Region.
