Achievements of the IPPC Secretariat’s Task Force for Resource Mobilization

The first task force established in 2015 for the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat was the Task Force for Resource Mobilization (TFRM). Members of the task for are Leanne Stewart, Céline Germain, Orlando Sosa, Marko Benovic and Craig Fedchock.

As one of the TFRM’s first activities, current donors and possible donors were classified with consideration given to their potential, interests and past contributions. Strengthening the Cooperation between the IPPC and the EU

The Bilateral Meeting on Strengthening the Cooperation between the IPPC and the European Union (EU) was held 1 March 2016 at EU-HQ in Brussels, Belgium. The IPPC delegation, led by Mr Jingyuan Xia (the IPPC Secretary), was composed of Mr Craig Fedchock (the IPPC Coordinator), Mr Orlando Sosa (the Implementation Officer) and Ms Celine Germain (the Standard Officer). The EU: a Corner Stone of IPPC Resource Mobilization Activities

In a historic first, the IPPC Secretariat and the European Commission (DG Health and Consumers (SANCO) and DG Trade) met jointly to discuss the work programme of the IPPC. This important meeting will become a regular feature of IPPC cooperation with the EU and its member states. Discussions were open and positive with areas of particular interest identified. This meeting builds upon an already good working relationship with the EU and its strong support following the EU Council statement of 20 March 2012 in support of the IPPC.

Postponement of the Expert Meeting on Resource Mobilization

The IPPC Secretariat has postponed the Expert Meeting on Resource Mobilization from 27th September to 1st of October after consultation with the CPM Bureau. This unfortunate decision was made due to the small number of the nominations and country comments that were received.

This will likely cause some delay in the mobilization of resources for the CPM work programme and will substantially increase the risk of having to reduce the expected work in coming years as we will not have adequate resources.
