Dr Thomas Schröder, of the Institute for National and International Plant Health in Braunschweig, Germany, has won first prize in the inaugural Pests Without Borders photo contest organized by the Capacity Development Committee of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).

Updated schedule of the Capacity Development pre-CPM – 10 Training Session, Side Sessions, Market places and Special Topics can be seen here.

A capacity development training session, range of side sessions, market places places and special topics will take place during the week of the tenth session of the Commission on the Phytosanitary Measures (16 – 20 March 2015) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

New head for NAPPO

Dr Stephanie Bloem has been appointed the new executive director of the North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO) and will assume her duties on 01 July 2015. She will manage the NAPPO Secretariat’s human and financial resources while leading the fulfilment of the NAPPO Executive Committee’s strategic plan and priority goals for North America.

The Secretariat of the IPPC congratulates Dr Bloem on her appointment and looks forward to a continued close working relationship.

New IPPC Secretary Named

Mr. Jingyuan Xia of the People’s Republic of China has been named by FAO Director General Graziano da Silva as the next Secretary of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). Mr. Xia has a BSc in plant protection, as well as an MSc and PhD in entomology. He has held several senior positions with Chinese agricultural institutions and most recently has been Permanent Representative and Minister Plenipotentiary to FAO.
