Launch of the 2016 IPPC General Survey

The Implementation Review and Support System (IRSS) has launched the second IPPC General Survey, which runs from 9 September to 11 November 2016.

The IPPC General Survey is designed to capture information on contracting parties overall implementation of the obligations and responsibilities as described in the Convention and the implementation of international standards for phytosanitary measures (ISPMs) and the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) recommendations.

IRSS Biosecurity study posted!

The Implementation and Support System (IRSS) of the IPPC has completed a desk study of the review and evaluation of biosecurity approaches internationally, by specific countries and applied by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The study looks at different definitions, principles and the main drivers of biosecurity. Case studies present an insight to challenges and successes of application at the national level. The study concludes with a series of questions to consider and recommendations are offered as a platform for the IPPC and FAO to determine the best approach to biosecurity in the future.

The IPPC Workshop on National Reporting Obligations for Asia held in China

The IPPC Workshop on National Reporting Obligations (NOR) for Asia took place 5-9 September 2016 in Beijing, China. The workshop was jointly organized and supported by the IPPC and the APPPC. Deepening the Bilateral Cooperation of the IPPC with New Zealand

Mr. Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary visited the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) for the first time on 9 September 2016. During his visit, Mr Xia had a meeting with Mr Martyn Dunne, the Director-General of MPI along with MPI staff members Mr Chris Carson, Director of International Policy, Mr John Hedley, Principal Adviser of International Policy, and Mr Stephen Butcher, Manager Import and Exports (Plants).

Phytosanitary treatments on fruit fly can now move forward

The Technical Panel for Phytosanitary Treatments (TPPT)) just ended their annual meeting in Tokyo today (2 September 2016) where they reviewed scientific data from a recent study carried out by the Joint Food and Agriculture and International Atomic Energy Agency Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture. Enhancing Global Food Security through Strengthening Plant Health

The year of 2016 is a milestone for the IPPC to start the implementation of the IPPC annual theme towards 2020, which means all IPPC activities for each year, starting from this year, should be related to a specified IPPC theme. The IPPC theme for 2016 is “Plant Health and Food Security”. Recently, Mr Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary, delivered a video message for 2016 IPPC Regional Workshops, focusing on Enhancing Global Food Security through Strengthening of Plant Health.
