IPP call for Opening of consultation periods (in En, Fr, Es)

The 2017 consultations on draft ISPMs has opened today, 30 June, and will close on 30 September 2017.

The 2017 consultation on draft specifications also started today, 30 June, and will close on 31 August 2017.

The following draft ISPMs are for open commenting:

CBD call for information

NPPOs are encouraged to provide information in response to a call by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on the following issues:

a) Addressing the risks associated with trade in wildlife, invasive alien species sold via e-commerce, and invasive alien species moving with sea containers;

b) Risk analysis on biological control agents;

c) Decision support tools for management of invasive alien species; and

d) The progress on the achievement of Aichi Biodiversity Target 9.

The IPPC standard on authorization of entities off to a good start

An intense week to draft an International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) on authorization of entities to perform phytosanitary actions has been concluded successfully. The meeting, which was hosted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, took place in Ottawa, Canada, from 12 to 16 June 2017, and was chaired by Gordon Henry (Canada).

The 11 participants, which included experts from around the world, gathered to discuss and debate what elements should be included in this standard. Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation between the IPPC and the WCO

The IPPC Secretariat is hiring a Technical Officer (P2) to work with the standard setting unit. Main tasks relate to facilitating the development of standards and publishing of standards in the official FAO languages.

Call for NPPO experts from small island developing States in the Caribbean to join a CBD workshop.

The Secretariat to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is holding a capacity-building workshop towards achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 9, scheduled to take place from 18 to 22 September 2017 in Kingston, Jamaica. This workshop is open to CBD Parties of small island developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean. One of the mandates of this workshop is to encourage national cooperation between CBD and IPPC focal points.

The Phytosanitary Measures Research Group (PMRG) provides a mechanism where critical phytosanitary treatment issues can be addressed through discussion and collaborative research. The group is comprised of around 75 researchers and regulators and meets approximately every two years. It is anticipated that approximately 25 researchers will attend the upcoming meeting.

The second multi-stakeholder workshop for the PCE in Madagscar was conducted from 30 April to 6 May 2017, as part of the IPPC’s intervention in the project “Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF): Strengthening controls of food safety threats, plant and animal pests and diseases for agricultural productivity and trade in Southern Africa”.
