19 – 23 November 2018, Rome – The 32nd meeting of the Standards Committee (SC) kicked off with the recommendation of two draft standards to the Committee on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-14) 2019 for adoption. These are the:

  • 2017 amendments to ISPM 5 (Glossary of Phytosanitary Terms); and

IPPC call for facilitators to be trained in pest risk management decision support tools

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) has recently issued a call to train facilitators to support the design and evaluation of pest risk management decision support tools to improve market access negotiations. The tools are being developed and enhanced as part of the “Rolling out Systems Approach Globally” project. The IPPC Secretariat also re-opened a call for trade case proposals, preferably targeting facilitators who come from countries or regions presenting trade cases.

New website on Fall Armyworm launched

UN General Assembly Second Committee approves IYPH resolution

New York, 8 November 2018. The Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has just adopted the resolution on the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) in 2020 by consensus. The process for the IYPH 2020 proclamation will be concluded when the UNGA plenary reviews the resolution in late December 2018.

The IPPC community is grateful to Finland for their leadership in the process to proclaim 2020 the International Year of Plant Health. For more information on the IYPH, see our video, factsheet and web page.

The 14th International Conference on Plant Pathogenic Bacteria (ICPPB)

The 14th International Conference on Plant Pathogenic Bacteria (ICPPB) will be held in Assisi (Umbria, Italy) from 7-12 June 2020. Entitled “The Impact of Plant Pathogenic Bacteria on Global Plant Health”, the conference aims at promoting and disseminating the latest scientific advances in Phytobacteriology; and encouraging collaboration among researchers.

A special session of the 14th ICPPB will be dedicated to the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH 2020) to highlight the important role of scientific research for promoting plant health and combating the devastating effect of bacteria and diseases on plant health and the environment.
