The IPPC Regional Workshops help participants understand the phytosanitary realities and challenges of each region, aiming to: 1. Analyze and prepare comments on draft ISPMs; 2. Build phytosanitary capacity and raise awareness on various activities of the IPPC Community; and finally 3. Provide a forum to exchanging experiences and ideas at the regional level.

Belgium pursuing the minting of a coin to commemorate the International Year of Plant Health

The Royal Mint of Belgium and the Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment of Belgium will be issuing a 2 EURO commemorative coin to promote the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) in 2020. The initiative is undertaken in cooperation with FAO and the IPPC Secretariat to foster plant health throughout the European Union.

Cargo pest awareness in Australia

Vessels, shipping containers and break-bulk cargo can introduce exotic pests and diseases into new areas with harmful consequences on plant health, food security and the environment. The Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has developed a video and a guide to assist relevant stakeholders with the identification and management of pests that may be present in imported goods and containers at approved arrangement sites.

The New FAO Director General, Dr. Dongyu QU, Paid an Official Visit to the IPPC Secretariat

1 August 2019, Rome – The new FAO Director-General (DG), Dr. Dongyu QU, paid an official visit to the IPPC Secretariat on his first day as the FAO Director-General. The new DG was accompanied by the FAO Deputy Director-General for Natural Resource (DDGN), Ms Helena Maria SEMEDO, the FAO Assistant Director-General for AG Department (ADG-AG), Mr. Bukar TIJANI, and other FAO Senior Officers.
