The CPM Financial Committee Meeting Held in Italy

The CPM Financial Committee (FC) meeting was held on 3 October 2016 in Rome, Italy. The meeting was chaired by Ms Lois Ransom, the CPM Chair from Australia, and opened by Mr Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary. The meeting was attended by Mr Lucien Kouame Konan (Côte d’Ivoire) and Mr Ralf Lopian (Finland) as well as Mr Craig Fedchock (the IPPC Advisor) and Mr Marko Benovic (the IPPC Financial Consultant). For the first time, Mr Francisco Tristante from the European Union was invited to participate in the meeting as an observer.

The IPPC Technical Committee Meeting on the ePhyto Project held in Argentina

The IPPC Technical Committee Meeting on the ePhyto Project (PTC) was held at the offices of the Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Cálidad Agroalimentaria de la República Argentina (SENASA) in La Plata, Argentina from 3-7 October 2016. The meeting, chaired by Mr Nico Horn, the chair of the ESG from the Netherlands, was attended by the members of the IPPC ePhyto Steering Group (ESG) as well as staff of the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC). The 3rd Training Workshop on the PCE Facilitators successfully organized in Ronciglione, Italy

Held in Ronciglione, Italy, from September 19th – 30th 2016, the 3rd training workshop on the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) facilitators brought together eight carefully selected phytosanitary experts from Anglophone Africa and the Near East and 4 staff of the FAO legal division. Workshop participants were trained to broaden and enhance their expertise in facilitating the application of the PCE tool. This two-week intensive training was conducted in an effort to improve existing or planned phytosanitary capacity systems the IPPC, with the financial support of the STDF.

The IPPC Holding the Second PCE Facilitators Training in Thailand

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat organized and held the second training for the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) Facilitators from 8 – 19 August 2016 in Chang Mai, Thailand under the Standards Trade and Development Facility (STDF) project 401: Training of Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) Facilitators.

The STDF project 401 seeks to improve national-level coordination and coherence of plant protection programmes through improved needs assessment and action planning. The aim of the project is to train a pool of individuals to facilitate phytosanitary needs assessment and action planning processes using the IPPC Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) tool.

Successful Start to the Campaign for an International Year of Plant Health in 2020!

On Tuesday September 27th a well-attended side session at the 25th meeting of the Committee on Agriculture marked the official beginning of the campaign to establish an International Year of Plant Health in 2020. The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Near East and North Africa was held from 5-8 September in Algeria. The workshop was organized by the IPPC in collaboration with the regional office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Near East Plant Protection Organization (NEPPO). Over 30 participants attended the workshop, who came from 16 countries of the region, as well as the IPPC, the FAO regional office and NEPPO. This kind of initiative has showcased a perfect collaboration between IPPC, FAO offices and NEPPO in this region.

The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for Africa was held from 14-16 September 2016 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The workshop was attended by 23 participants from 16 countries, the African Union Commission (AUC), the Inter-African Phytosanitary Council (IAPSC), FAO and the IPPC Secretariat. The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Caribbean held in Barbados

The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Caribbean was held from 13-15 September 2016 in Christ Church, Barbados. The Workshop was co-organized with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and hosted by the Government of Barbados. Funding for the Workshop was provided by the IPPC Secretariat and the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures Project, which is being implemented by IICA. Thirteen participants from 12 contracting parties, representatives from IICA, the FAO Sub-Regional Office, the IPPC Secretariat, and a member of the IPPC Standards Committee attended the workshop.

The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for the South-West Pacific Held in Fiji

The 2016 IPPC Regional Workshop for the South-West Pacific was held in Nadi, Fiji from the 12th to 14th September 2016. The Workshop was jointly organized the IPPC Secretariat, PPPO and FAO sub-regional offices, and financed supported by the Australian AID. The Workshop was attended by over 40 participants from 13 PPPO members as well as its metropolitan parties, Australia and New Zealand.
