Call for Expert Consultation on Cold Treatments

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for qualified experts and scientists to participate in the Expert Consultation on Cold Treatments (due to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in December 2013) to identify collect and evaluate information on existing cold treatments that are needed for regulated pests and regulated articles and that may be implemented at a global level. Selected experts are also welcome to present any approved new schedules for use at an international level between contracting parties and for building confidence in cold treatments as a phytosanitary measure. Nominations are due 30 August 2013. - Specific requirements The expertise required for participation in the ECCT is in accordance with the meeting programme (see provisional programme). The experts confirmed should be available to attend the meeting of the ECCT on 02-06 December 2013. These dates can be found on the IPPC Calendar. Interested persons/parties should send an email to the IPPC Secretariat ([email protected]) no later than 30 August 2013. The email should provide an abstract of the proposed presentation (500 words maximum) in accordance with the provisional programme as well as a brief CV providing qualifications to speak on the topic. Nominations are being solicited by the Steering Committee of the ECCT and the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) for speakers to address the ECCT as a phytosanitary measure to control regulated pests. Criteria for selection of participants: - Area of expertise (industry, science, regulation etc.) - Experience - Current research or work on cold treatments - Future research or work - List of papers on cold treatments - Relevance of the papers - Geographical representation - Representation from developing countries - English language skills - Abstract of proposed presentation 400-500 words maximum All materials will be posted on the IPPC website. NOTE: Only a limited number of speakers will be selected to address the ECCT. - Funding Participants are encouraged to have their travel expenses covered by their respective countries. A limited number of experts from developing countries will be funded according to the IPPC criteria for prioritizing participants to receive travel assistance. Countries or organizations which are interested in translation of the meeting into their languages should send the proposals for funding to the IPPC Secretariat.
