Résumé

The affected property has been placed under quarantine pending completion of diagnostic testing. Tracing of movement of plant material from the property and surveying nearby mango-growing properties for any evidence of MMD is underway. Prior to this detection, there has been no evidence of mango malformation in Queensland. Other Australian states and territories are continuing to monitor Australia's mango production areas for signs of the disease. Three trees were found to be affected in the Northern Territory in 2007-09. Affected trees were destroyed and no further infection has been found. The disease has not been detected anywhere else.

Danger
Mango Malformation Disorder (MMD) is a fungal disease of mangoes caused by several species of Fusarium. Mango trees are the only known host of the disorder. It has been found in many overseas mango production countries. MMD affects tree growth and can reduce fruit yields in severely affected orchards. There is no scientific evidence to show that the fungus is carried on or spread by fruit. The primary means of spread of MMD to new areas is through infected planting material.
