Brève description

The Tanzanian Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Services (PQPS) is part of the Plant Health Services (PHS) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. PQPS consists of a network of 36 border posts over the country which includes Airports, Harbors and Overland Border Entrys.

PQPS is entrusted with the mandate to manage quarantine controls at our border posts according to the plant Protection Act 1997 and its regulations of 1998 with objectives of;

i) Prevention of the entry and spread of exotic diseases and pests from other countries. ii) Ensure a timely discovery of diseases and pests, their eradication, and supervision of the control measures iii) Establish a control on the implementation of quarantine rules in production, export/imports transportation, storage, processing and sale of agricultural goods

As international travel and movement of people has become easier, the job of keeping Tanzania free of unwanted pests has become more demanding. PQPS continuously looks to improve the effectiveness of the quarantine and phytosanitary services by working closely with other stakeholders of border agencies.
