Résumé

Suspected specimens of tuta absoluta was discovered in Trinidad in December, 2021 in County St George East and St George West. Official diagnosis was completed via CABI Labs in March 2022 and the Caribbean Pest Diagnostic Network (CPDN) University of Florida in June 2022. Surveillance activities using imported sex pheromones lures revealed that the pest population is very low.
A working team was convened and the following action were initiated :-

  • Continued distribution mapping of infested sites.
  • Public Awareness sessions with frontline officers of the Ministry were conducted.
  • Public Awareness sessions with farmers are being conducted.
  • Notifiable Pest status.
  • Integrated Pest Management strategy being promoted.
  • Literature material (posters and factsheets) are being created for distribution.
