The 2nd meeting of the IPPC Implementation Capacity and Development Committee (IC) was held between 21 and 25 May 2018 at FAO-HQ in Rome, Italy with Ms Olga LAVRENTJEVA (Estonia) presiding as the IC Chairperson.
The IC discussed thoroughly the governance and strategic directions of their work to ensure that the work is focused on the CPM priorities and that efficient, clear and transparent processes and procedures are in place.

The Standards Committee working group (SC-7), met on 21-23 May 2018 in Rome and had intense and fruitful discussions on two draft ISPMs. The 2018 SC-7 was led by Mr Nico Horn (The Netherlands) as the chairperson for this year’s working group. The SC-7 consists of seven SC members - one representative per FAO region. They had detailed and in-depth discussions on the draft standards that were commented upon by IPPC Official contact points during the first consultation in 2017. The IPPC Standards Committee (SC), with 27 participants representing all seven FAO regions and led by their Chairperson, Mr Ezequiel FERRO (Argentina) met on 14-18 May 2018 in Rome for yet another intense and productive week.
The SC reviewed four standards drafted by different expert groups in 2017 and approved all drafts for submission to the first consultation period (1 July – 30 September 2018, through the Online Comment System):

The 2018 consultation on CPM recommendation: Next Generation Sequencing technologies as a diagnostic tool for phytosanitary purposes has opened today, 15 May, and will close on 15 August .

The 2018 call for topics: Standards and Implementation starts on 1 May 2018 and ends on 31 August 2018. The call is made every two years.
As agreed by the 13th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM), the call for topics solicits proposals for both Standards and Implementation resources to be included in the IPPC work programme and to fill gaps in the Framework for Standards and Implementation. IPPC contracting parties and Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs) are invited to submit detailed proposals for new topics or for the revision of existing material to the IPPC Secretariat.
