CPM-13 Special Topics Session on Plant Health and Environment Protection

A Special Topics Session on Plant Health and Environment Protection was held on 19 April 2018 during the 13th Session of the Commission for Phytosanitary Measures. The Session aimed at promoting the IPPC 2018 annual theme “Plant Health and Environment Protection”. Four speakers briefed the CPM audience and clearly demonstrated the relevance and linkage between plant health, environmental protection, climate change, food security and human health.

CPM-13 Side Session on Plant Health and Environmental Protection held at FAO HQs

A successful side session on the 2018 IPPC annual theme “Plant Health and Environmental Protection” was held at FAO Headquarters in Rome on Monday 16 April at the margins of the thirteenth session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-13). The session, co-organized by the Secretariats of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), was opened by Dr Jingyuan Xia, IPPC Secretary, with presence of over 120 participants. The 10th Conference of Parties of the CBD gives special consideration to plant health in the newly adopted Nagoya Protocol and in discussions on invasive alien species

IYOBThe final and most controversial product adopted at the two-week long 10th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biodiversity was the Nagoya Protocol on "Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization". The Nagoya Protocol sets terms on how countries will permit access to genetic resources, share the benefits arising from their use, and cooperate with one another in allegations of misuse. Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health Portal launched

FAO today launched the International Portal for Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health (IPFSAPH) at a Regional Conference on Food Safety for Asia and the Pacific. The IPFSAPH will enable a speedy and authoritative search for current food safety and food quality standards, regulations and other relevant official materials from a single search tool.
