Call for discussion papers for the EWG on focused revision of ISPM 12 (phytosanitary certificates) in relation to re-export

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting discussion papers in preparation for the meeting of the Expert Working Group (EWG) on Focused Revision of ISPM 12 (Phytosanitary certificates) in relation to re-export (2015-014) which will take place from 9 to 12 December 2019 in Rome, Italy: http://www.ippc.int/events/event/785 .

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for authors for the following IPPC diagnostic protocols on the work programme of the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols:

Mononychelus tanajoa (2018-006)

Citrus leprosis virus (2018-025)

Psyllid vectors of Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum (2018-030)

Pyricularia oryzae (syn. Magnaporthe oryzae) on Triticum spp. (2019-002)

Microcyclus ulei (2019-003)

• the Technical Panel on Phytosanitary Treatments (TPPT) (see Specification TP3)

• the Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP) (see Specification TP1)

Nominations are due 01 October 2019.

Call for technical resources: IPPC Guide on Plant Pest Surveillance - Revision (2017-049)

  • Submissions of any existing relevant technical resources for the revision of the IPPC Guide on Plant Pest Surveillance (2017-049).

Purpose of the Guide:

The IPPC Guide on Plant Pest Surveillance is meant to support the implementation of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 6 Surveillance. ISPM 6 was revised by IPPC contracting parties (CPs) during CPM – 13 (2018), the IPPC Guide on Plant Pest Surveillance needs to be updated accordingly.

Call for Implementation and Capacity Development projects

Purpose

The Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC) wishes to collect, consolidate and share phytosanitary implementation and capacity development (ICD) project information. Such initiative aims to promote global ‘best practice’ principles, maximize research and development investment, promote project synergies, minimize duplication and facilitate networking opportunities amongst plant health professionals.

We are soliciting information regarding ongoing projects at country, regional and global level.

Further information on the IC review of these projects is available at the Appendix 14 “Strategy and process on how the IC reviews and analyses Implementation and Capacity Development projects” to the May 2019 IC meeting report.

Call for Abstracts: IPPC International Symposium for Pest Free Areas and Surveillance - DEADLINE EXTENDED

The IPPC International Symposium for Pest Free Areas and Surveillance is to be held in Shizuoka, Japan between 28 October and 1 November 2019.

Participants of the Symposium - Representatives of contracting parties (CPs) and National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs), Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs), FAO Regional and sub- regional offices, international, intergovernmental, educational and scientific organizations and private sector/service providers involved in phytosanitary activities and trade are invited to submit abstracts for:

  • Oral presentations, and
  • Posters

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for experts to take part in the Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC) Sub-group on Dispute Avoidance and Settlement.

When considering nominations, please read through the Dispute Avoidance and Settlement IC Sub-group Terms of Reference and IC Sub-groups Rules of Procedure.

Nominations were originally due 19 April 2019. Due to the poor response, the Secretariat has extended the deadline to 14 June 2019.

The call is primarily addressed to Contracting Parties (CPs) and Regional Plant Protection Organizations, but may also be addressed to other targeted industry stakeholder groups.

Draft diagnostic protocol (DP ) under DP notification period: Bactrocera dorsalis (2006-026)

The Standard Committee (SC) approved the following draft diagnostic protocol (DP) for the DP notification period:

  • Bactrocera dorsalis (2006-026)

Contracting parties have 45 days to review the approved DPs and submit an objection, if any, along with a technical justification and suggestions for improvement of the approved DP. If no objection is received, the DP is considered adopted by the SC on behalf of the CPM.

This notification period starts on 05 January 2019 and ends on 20 February 2019.
