A second mission for the application of the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) tool was conducted in Bridgetown Barbados, October 2 – 6, 2017. Record number of IPPC Contracting Parties using Online Commenting System!

Launched in 2016, the new IPPC Online Comment System (OCS) continues to strengthen IPPC Official Contracting Party participation in developing international standards for phytosanitary measures. 2017 has not only seen an increase in the number of IPPC users providing comments (see graph above), it also has seen the highest number of standards out for consultation in IPPC history – 17! The OCS was also used this year by Contracting Parties and IPPC stakeholders for consultations on topics other than standards, including documents produced for the International Year of Plant Health and the ePhyto Steering Group. Phytosanitary Measures Research Group (PMRG) 2017 meeting report available

The Phytosanitary Measures Research Group (PMRG) met from 10 to 13 July in Wageningen, The Netherlands, and had 25 participants from 14 countries.

The main objectives and activities of the meeting covered: 1) information sharing; 2) IPPC liaison and call for phytosanitary treatments; 3) work programme of the PMRG: follow-up on activities from previous meeting and new issues identified; 4) Ozone Secretariat: Methyl Bromide Technical Options Committee (MBTOC) and treatments alternatives to methyl bromide; 5) systems approach and the “Clean Corridor and Integrated Quarantine Risk Management” concept; 6) election of new PMRG officers for the Executive Committee.

The 14th meeting of the International Forest Quarantine Research Group held in Rotorua, New Zealand

The 14th meeting of the International Forest Quarantine Research Group (IFQRG) was held in Rotorua, New Zealand, at the offices of SCION Research Ltd. from October 2-6, 2017. Since its inception in 2003, the IFQRG, an independent organization of scientists, regulators and industry experts, has provided scientific research and analysis to standard setting bodies such as the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) and regional plant protection organizations. The IPPC Focus Group Meeting on Criteria for Upcoming Call for Phytosanitary Issues Held in Rome

The IPPC Focus Group (FG) met on Monday 9 October 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, to develop criteria for a call for topics: Standard Setting and Implementation. The meeting was chaired by Mr Corné Van Alphen, the CPM Bureau Member, and attended by the representatives from the Standards Committee (SC) and the Implementation Capacity Development Committee (IC) of the IPPC CPM, as well as from the Standard Setting Unit (SSU) and the Implementation Facilitation Unit (IFU) of the IPPC Secretariat.

The CPM Bureau Meeting in October 2017 Held at FAO Headquarter

The CPM Bureau meeting was held on 9 and 13 October 2017 at FAO Headquarter in Rome, Italy. The meeting was chaired by Mr Francisco Javier Trujillo Arriaga (Mexico), the Vice Chairperson of CPM, and opened by Mr Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary. The meeting was attended by all the Bureau members, except the CPM Chairperson who was excused, as well as the representatives from the IPPC Secretariat.

The 6th CPM Strategic Planning Group (SPG) Meeting Held in Rome

The 6th CPM Strategic Planning Group (SPG) meeting was held at FAO-HQ in Rome, Italy, from 10-12 October 2017. The meeting was chaired by Mr Francisco Javier Trujillo Arriaga (Mexico), the Vice Chairperson of CPM, and opened by Mr Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary. The meeting was attended by 43 participants from 35 IPPC Contracting Parties, as well as a representative of the World Bank and IPPC Secretariat staff. Mr Sam Bishop (United Kingdom) was selected as the Rapporteur.
